GO PUBLIC has been named the recipient of the Burbank International Film Festival 2013 “Presidents Innovation Award.” In addition to the screening, Director James O’Keeffe will be honored with the award for conceptualizing and executing the 50 films in one day concept used to capture an authentic day in the life of the Pasadena Unified School District.

The public is invited to participate in a wide-ranging discussion of public education at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3707 Eastern Ave., Davenport.
The event will feature a viewing of “Go Public: A Day in the Life of an American School District,” a 90-minute documentary depicting a day in the life of the Pasadena (Calif.) Unified School District.
After viewing the film, the filmmakers and local educators will hold an interactive discussion with the audience about the film and its relevance to area schools.
The panel includes Davenport Community School District Superintendent Art Tate and school board members Ralph Johanson and Bill Sherwood (Progressive Action for the Common Good); Jim Andrews, assistant superintendent of human resources for the Rock Island-Milan School District; Tom Carpenter, director of the School of Education at St. Ambrose University; Mike Schroeder, professor of education at Augustana College; Rebecca Menard, president of the Davenport Education Association; Toby Paone of the Iowa State Education Association, and Iowa state Rep. Cindy Winckler, D-Davenport and a member of the Legislature’s Education Committee.
